Remembering To Keep The Sabbath Day Holy! By Nanyamka Boyer
Good day my beloved fellow reader and beloved brother or sister in Christ. It is my prayer that you are having a blessed day and are enjoying the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon you, whether big or small. For remember what we are told by the Lord through the Apostle James in James 1:17-21 that "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variables, neither shadow of turning."
On this day let us remember to keep the 4th Commandment of God, which is to keep the Sabbath day or the Saturday holy. For the Lord gave us and gives us this day for our bodies, our servants and our animals to rest and for the land to also rest. As this we read from the LORD in Exodus 20:8-11 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger (or the homeless and the unbeliever) that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed (or sanctified) it."
For when we don't keep this commandment we are in rebellion against Him, by not keeping His commandments and are pushing our bodies to the limit, when they are in need of rest or in need of recovery, after having worked all week long and are also defiling the land or the ground upon which we walk. And the land also needs rest from all of our feet walking and working upon it daily. For if you remember that one of the reasons the LORD cast out the Nation of Israel out of their land in the time of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar and of the Prophet Jeremiah, it was because of them not letting the land rest on the Sabbath days, which day began and begins on Fridays at 6pm of every evening. Let us refresh our memory by reading what took place before and after Nebuchadnezzar took them captive to Babylon and destroyed the beautiful Temple in Jerusalem that took King Solomon seven years to build, for not obeying His voice through His servants the Prophets. And also how the LORD by allowing them to be taken captive to Babylon would allow the land to rest for 70 years.
This we read in 2 Chronicles 36: 15-17 and 2 Chronicles 36:19-21. Verses 15-17 "And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by His messengers of God, rising up betimes (or often times), and sending; because He had compassion on His people, and on His dwelling place: But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised His words, and misused His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy. Therefore He brought upon them the King of the Chaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: He gave them all into his (Nebuchadnezzar's) hand."
And 2 Chronicles 36: 19-21 "And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof. And them that had escaped from the sword carried he away to Babylon; where they were servants to him and his sons until the reign of the kingdom of Persia: To fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her sabbaths: for as long as she lay desolate she kept sabbath, to fulfill threescore and ten years (or 70 years)."
For those who believe that we are no longer commanded to keep the Commandments of God, including the Sabbath days, because we are now under His grace and because Jesus worked on the Sabbath days, by healing the sick and raising the dead. The Lord wants you to know that we must still obey His commandments including this commandment of keeping the Sabbath and only do on it what is of necessity for us to do. For example if we have to go to work to make up extra money because our income is short or make up hours, so that our paychecks are complete to help us pay our bills. But we must not do this regularly, but only as it is greatly needed. Or if we must go to our Doctor's or Dentist appointments, because it is impossible for us to do on the weekdays, while we work. Or if we must serve the Lord by preaching the gospel to the lost or by healing the sick, then the Lord understands this and wants us to go ahead and serve Him, as He is creating the circumstances for us to handle them with His and through His Holy Spirit.
But for us to use this day for our own personal entertainment and selfish benefit, we defile the land and pile up sins against Him, and these sins are not forgotten by God. As all of our sins are recorded in our books in Heaven and unless we repent of these sins, including the sin of defiling the land on the Sabbath days and for not resting on it and have not stopped committing them, He cannot forgive us and forget about them. For this is why the Lord Jesus tells us in Mark 2:27-28 "And He said unto them, The sabbath was made for man (or for man to rest, keep or obey the Sabbath days), and not man for the sabbath (or for man to think that he is in control of controlling others through the Sabbath days or through the law of the sabbath, as the Pharisees, Sadducees, and the Scribes used to do against the people and the Lord, when He came, by judging Him and others). Therefore the Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath ( or is in control of the Sabbath days, by letting us do what we must do on those Saturdays)."
For this is also why we see His judgments throughout the earth against the wicked or against those who do not fear Him nor obey Him and this is why He tells us in Leviticus 18:24-25 "Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled (because of all their unconfessed sins, including defiling the Sabbath): therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants."
And this is also why He warns us and commands us to keep all of His commandments, through His Holy Spirit, by yielding to Him daily in Leviticus 18:26-30 "Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled); That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God."
So if we want to know the truth and not perish for the lack of knowledge of the truth in our lives or of the LORD's ways and commandments for our lives, we must seek Him daily in His Word and in prayer, so He can help us in our lives and give us the wisdom and the understanding of His Word and the ways in and of life, so that we may live and not die spiritually here on earth and physically in hell. For let us remember that the wages of sin is death, as we are told by the Lord through the Apostle Paul in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Let us also remember that the Lord Jesus Christ did not come to this earth to destroy the law but to fulfill it, as He tells us in Matthew 5:17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill." So let us not think because we have been saved through His precious and mighty blood that we no longer have to keep His commandments. For He gives us the strength to do it, through the Holy Spirit, as we yield to Him, through His Word daily. So we have no excuse and once saved is not always saved, for if Jesus had to submit to the Father while on earth, so must we. For He came to give us the strength to do so and to give us the example on how to do it. And it is written in Ezekiel 3:18-21 and Ezekiel 18:24 that when the righteous turns away from his righteousness and commits iniquity, his righteousness that he has done shall not be remembered by the Lord and in his sins which he committed, will he die.
So as the Lord says in Proverbs 4:7 "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." And as the Lord through King Solomon says in one of my favorite scriptures in Ecclesiastes 7:12 "For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it."
So let us get wisdom, knowledge of the truth and understanding through the Lord, so we may prolong our days in the land, by the keeping of His commandments daily, so the land vomits us not also, as the Lord says. For our words, our ways and our actions are always held accountable before the Lord and He will judge each and every one of us accordingly, so let us start being wise and use His wisdom to make it in and through this world and also to Heaven and not to hell.
Have a blessed day and remember that we can do all things through Him who strengthens us, especially the keeping of His commandments, for He lives His holy life in us. And if we are truly saved, then it is no longer us who live our lives in our flesh or bodies, but Christ who lives in us, and through us and the life that we live in this world, we live by His faith, who loved us and gave His life for us, so that we would make it, as our beloved brother Paul the Apostle tells us in Philippians 4:13 and in Galatians 2:20.
