Being The Parents The Lord Has Called Us To Be! By Nanyamka Boyer
Good day to you my beloved brother or sister in our Faithful and Awesome, Savior, and Lord Jesus Christ, our Light and Wisdom in this world. It is my prayer that this devotion finds you well and full of the faith and courage of the Lord, you and your household, as you live in this world. For we know that even though at times in our lives, we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we have the Lord walking along with us, holding our hands, keeping our chins up and leading us safely unto the other side, as He heals our hearts, godly relationships and lives, guides us and comforts our souls, through and in that trial.
For remember that He has promised us in the Book of the Prophet Isaiah that He is with us, will strengthen us, also commands us to not be in fear and promises us that He will help us, as He greatly loves us and cares for us and about us, as we read Isaiah 41:10, which is also one of my favorite scriptures and one that the Lord greatly pities us, shows us His abundant mercy and comfort to us. "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." And as I hear Him say, so I can remind you of His beloved promise of when we go through the waters or trials of life and spiritual fire in Isaiah 43:1-5 that He is with us, will not let us drown and the fire burn us, for He will help us. "When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt (now to us the world, the Lord means) for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not: for I am with thee;..."
So be strong and continue to rely upon the Lord to sustain you, as you go through the waters or trials of life. For remember that the Lord was and is a man who carried and continues to carry our sorrows and is acquainted or related with grief and our grief, as we read in Isaiah 53:3 "He is despised and rejected of men: a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him: He was despised, and we esteemed Him not." So He understands our suffering and will hold on to us, as long as we invite Him in our lives and let Him be God for us.
On this day let us also remember to be the parents the Lord has called us to be to our beloved children and raise them up or train them in the Word and Ways of God, so they can also know the Truth of and in this world, who is the Lord God Almighty, their Loving Father, Savior, Lord and Creator and choose to fear Him and have eternal life instead of going the way of the world that is broad and wide way that leads to destruction, both spiritually and physically. For as they learn the truth and about the Lord through us their parents, they learn to apply the Lord's Word and Ways in their lives, when they are alone and on their own.
For remember that we will not always be here in this world with them and for them, but the Lord will and if they know not how to seek Him, depend on Him and obey His Commandments, now when they have the chance and can learn from us for their own spiritual benefit, they will be greatly influenced by the devil through his own wicked children, and they will perish and die, both spiritually and physically, before their time without knowledge of what their rights are, as children of God. For this is why the Lord grieves and says that His people, including the lost, perish for a lack of knowledge, and warns us to not reject knowledge, as our children will also have to pay the piper, as He says in Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." For this is why the Lord came to and for us 2,000 years ago, to give us life abundant, both spiritual and physical life, as He says in the Gospel of John in John 10:10 "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." And this includes our children too!
For remember that we as parents are a covering and a protection over our children that the Lord has set us in place to be for them. And they look up to us for leadership and an example on how to be people, parents and walk in this world towards them and their fellow man or towards one another in this world. So, as the Lord commands us to train up a child in the way that they should go according to His Word and Ways, so when they are old, they do not depart from it, so let us do, as He says in Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way that he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." For the seed or Word of God takes time to grow in a person's heart and life, no matter the age, and as we continue to sow the seed or by telling them continually His Word and Ways, we with the Lord water the Word of God in their hearts and lives, and they will remember it, when we are not with them, as the Lord will bring His Word or Ways to their remembrance, through the Holy Spirit.
Let us also remember to not abuse nor neglect our children in any way, as the Lord hold us and will hold us accountable for wronging them. For abuse and negligence is not of God, and He will fight for them and bring them Justice. So, if you are a parent who is hurting and have been greatly abused in your life by your own parents and people, as I myself have, for we are not immune to the devil and his attacks against us, go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to forgive you if you have abused your children or anyone and to heal your heart and soul. And to show you how to be a blessing to your child or children's life and people, so that pattern is broken in your life and your child's future and be able to grow healthy, loved and strong in the Lord without feeling and being rejected by you. For remember you are their first role model in this world. For this is why the Lord through the Apostle Paul commands us, mom and dads and not just fathers, to do not provoke our children to wrath, as we read in Ephesians 6:4 "And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." And in Colossians 3:21 "Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged."
For remember that we as parents grow old, and will need them (or our children) in our old age to show us compassion and mercy. And if we sow hatred and anger in their hearts towards us, by abusing and mistreating them when they are young, we will end up dying alone and without their love. For remember that what goes around comes around or as the Lord says in Galatians 6:7-8, through the Apostle Paul. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." For we were all created by God to be loved, free and not be oppressed and held in bondage either spiritually and physically, by anyone including by parents, but to live our lives, be loved and free in the Lord. For life is too short to waste it in being evil, prideful and separated from the Lord and our children, when we could be a part of one another lives and fellowship with them. For that is a time that we do not ever get back to change things and make them right before the Lord, once our time is up.
Go with God, have a blessed, peaceful and joyous week, remembering that our greatest and best example of Fatherhood and Motherhood is God the Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit, as He alone (The Beloved Holy Trinity) is Love and knows how to love and give love. So learn from the Master and His Character, as you abide in Him and get to know Him through His Word and as it is written of Him, who is love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-12 "Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly (or has an unacceptable behavior), seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh not evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a dark glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity (or love), these three; but the greatest of these is charity." So let us put away childish things, including as parents and grow up in the Lord, so our children can be blessed, have eternal life and have a long life here in this world.
