Pride: A Destroyer Of Our Souls! By Nanyamka Boyer
Good day to you my beloved brother or sister in our Beautiful and Faithful Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, our Strength, Salvation and Hope in Life! It is my prayer that on this beautiful Spring Day, this devotion finds you well and strong in your walk and love for the Lord, both you and your loved ones, spiritually and physically. For as we live in this world, we know that there will be times that we will have to go through circumstances in our lives that will test our faith and love for God, as the Lord tested the faith of His beloved servants: Job, King David, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, Daniel, the Prophets, the Apostles and countless others throughout History.
So remember that if you are finding yourself in a trial and are feeling discouraged and hopeless that there's always hope in the Lord and He is with you, as He has said that He will always be in the Gospel of Matthew until the end of the world. And has also promised us to renew our strength and strengthen our hearts as we wait upon Him and walk with Him, as He promises in the Book of the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles: they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." And in Psalm 27:14 "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." So the key here is to wait on the Lord without giving up on Him and doubting His love for us.
For as He was and is faithful to His beloved children, the Nation of Israel, so will He be in our lives till the day He takes us home. For remember that the Lord is and has been faithful to us in the past and will continue to be, for His name is also called Faithful and True, as we read in the Book of Revelation in Revelation 19:11 "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war." For He is a God who changes not, as it is written in Malachi 3:6 "For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed."
On this day let us also remember that pride is a destroyer of our souls, lives and eternal salvation in God, and is not a virtue, as the world portrays it to be. For pride destroys the hope and souls of the lost to ever have eternal life, help and salvation in and through Jesus, as they reject the Lord, lean upon the arm of the flesh (theirs or of man's) and think that they can make do or make it in this world without the Lord's salvation, presence in their hearts and lives and help in their lives. For remember that our God and Heavenly Father is a God who is meek and lowly in His heart, as He says in the Gospel of Matthew in Matthew 11:29 "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." And a God who resists the proud and gives His grace of help and salvation to the humble and not to the proud, as we read in James 4:6 "But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." For pride is a gap or a breach that keeps us from God, as it is sin, as we are wise or right in our own eyes, which results in death.
For remember that this is why Satan or the Devil, that ancient serpent, our enemy, fell from heaven, for thinking in his heart that he could overthrow God and be like Him, as we read by God the Father in the Book of the Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 14:12-15 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit." For as it is written in the Book of King Solomon, the Book of Proverbs in Proverbs 18:12 "Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility." Or as the world says: "Pride goes before a fall!"
So remain humble and daily acknowledge your sins, shortcomings and this sin of pride before the Lord and repent, so it (or sin) doesn't have the dominion over your heart, soul and life! Also wait on the Lord to come through for you, after you have sought His face and will for your life in prayer and do not be like King Saul was in the First Book of Samuel the Prophet, who took matters into his own hands and did not wait upon the Word of and from the Lord, through His Prophet Samuel and offered sacrifices before the Lord without the Lord's consent and also for not killing the King of Amalek and his people and all that he had in his Kingdom, as we read in 1 Samuel Chapter 15. For this is why the Lord reproved him (King Saul), through the Prophet Samuel about the Lord not having pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices, but that His servants obey His Commandments, for to obey is better than to sacrifice, as we read in 1 Samuel 15:19-23 "Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD? And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal. And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubborness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, He hath rejected thee from being king."
For being impatient leads to pride and pride leads to sin and sin to judgment or death and destruction, as we read in James 1:13-15 "Let not man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death." For remember that the Lord is attracted to humility and to a broken or a contrite heart and spirit, as King David knew and understood, when he wrote it in Psalm 51:17, after he greatly sinned with Bathsheeba and killed her husband Uriah the Hittite. "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." And in Psalm 34:18 "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart, and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit."
So wait on the Lord and do not take matters into your own hands, by being impatient and right in your own eyes. For remember that it leads to death, as it is written in Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." And in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." For the Lord is working patience in you, as it is one of His characteristics or attributes, and without holiness or as He is, who is holy, no man will see Him, as we read in the Book of Hebrews in Hebrews 12:14 "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:"
Go with God, have a blessed, peaceful and joyful week, remembering to let patience have her perfect or complete work in you or heart and life, as we read in James 1:4 "But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." So you can be like God in His Loving and Faithful personality, long-suffering, gentle, humble, kind and patient. And also daily do what He commands us in Micah 6:8 "He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" So keep walking humbly with Him, wait upon Him and let no seed of pride take root in your heart, but give it to the Lord in prayer, so He can forgive you and remove it from your heart and life and cast down those imaginations that contradict the truth of who God is and what He says in His Holy Word in your mind that the devil puts there, as it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5-6 "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled." So stay strong and full of courage in your walk with God!
